Thanksgiving Live Music Free Yoga Class

Thursday November 22nd

Join us on Thanksgiving Morning for a FREE Yoga Class with Grey Marcoux and Deborah Crooks.
Thursday Nov. 22nd 9:30-10:45am

We hold this gratitude based class each year to show our appreciation for Symmetry’s amazing community of Yogis and Power Plate students! This special class will focus on breath, sound and movement as a way of transforming and bringing awareness to the blessings in our lives. Grey will guide you through a heartfelt asana, pranayama and guided meditation practice bringing you to a place of ease during this holiday season.

As a special treat we will be enjoying this practice with live musical accompaniment by Singer-songwriter Deborah Crooks. Her lyric-driven and soul-wise music draws on folk, rock, and Americana . She’ll be playing a selection of songs from her own and Bay Station’s recordings, performing as an acoustic duo with Kwame Copeland on lead guitar, dobro and backing vocals.

This class is FREE but space is limited, please RSVP here  to reserve your spot

Mind/Body Detox: Cleansing Breath & Twists with Mary Smith

oakland alameda yoga studioSaturday November 10th 1:30-3:30pm
Mind/body detox is the third installment of the Elements of Yoga series. In this workshop we will learn a cleansing breath technique called Kapalabhati as a means of detoxifying the respiratory system, stimulating the brain and preparing for ujjayi pranayama — the breath for our movement practice. Throughout this workshop we will work on techniques to improve the rotational mobility of the spine as well as the core strength required to twist. Bring a towel and water, since twisting postures encourage your body to let go of toxins. You will sweat it out!

Friday Night Flow with Abigail Rauber and Reisender

Symmetry Yoga Alameda Oakland Friday Night Flow with Live MusicFriday October 26th – 7:00pm-8:30pm

Kick off your weekend with live music that will inspire you to move through an open level yoga class taught by Abigail Rauber. This month we are joined yet again by a reappearance of Reisender!

Reisender began when songwriter Paul Conroy bought a neglected mandolin for 40 euros from a Flea Market in Stuttgart, Germany. The first few songs were written under bridges and on street corners of 20 different cities in Europe. From its origin as “Strassenmusik” (street music), Reisender embodies the spirit of the traveler, who embraces change and transience, especially in the face of adversity and hardship.

Whether you are new to yoga or a long time yogi, this class will invite you to deepen your experience of Vinyasa Flow. Through music and movement, we will find a sense of play in our practice, learning to listen to the body’s intuition, and how to move like your best self.

Normal class rates apply, please reserve your spot here!

Psoas Love with Aviva Levin

symmetry yoga alameda workshop aviva levine

Sunday Oct 21st 1:30-3:30pm
This 2-hour workshop is an invitation to connect to and slowly release the powerful (and often very tight) Psoas muscle. Join Aviva Levine E-RYT 200 and Certified Level II TRE® Provider for a slow Forrest Yoga inspired sequence followed by TRE® (tension, stress and trauma releasing exercises.)

The Psoas, a bio-intelligent tissue often referred to as the ‘muscle of the soul,’ is the deepest muscle of the human body. Its resilience affects structural balance, flexibility, strength, range of motion, joint mobility, and organ functioning. The stress of our fast-paced modern lifestyle can chronically trigger and tighten the Psoas – making it literally ready to run, fight or freeze. This can lead to a host of painful conditions including low back pain, sacroiliac pain, sciatica, disc problems, scoliosis, hip degeneration, knee pain, menstruation pain, infertility, immune system and adrenal gland depletion and digestive complications. All levels welcome.

Yoga for SI Joint Health with Aviva Levine

alameda oakland yoga studio anatomy workshopSaturday September 22nd 1:30-3:30pm

Join Aviva Levine E-RYT, YACEP + Certified TRE Provider for a workshop dedicated to supporting the health of the SacroIliac (SI) joints. This workshop addresses common symptoms of SI joint dysfunction including pain in the lower back and buttock as well as pain radiating to lower hip, groin or upper thigh. We will focus on poses that should be done daily and include time to build a custom personal practice to take home.

Although usually one sided, in rarer occasions dysfunction can occur in both. Other symptoms could be numbness, tingling or a feeling of weakness in the leg. Symptoms may worsen with sitting, standing, sleeping, walking or climbing stairs. Often the SI joint is painful sitting or sleeping on the affected side. Some people have difficulty riding in a car or standing, sitting or walking too long. Pain can be worse with transitional movements (going from sit to stand), standing on one leg or climbing stairs.

This is an ALL LEVELS workshop and will include elements of Forrest Yoga, Pilates + TRE (tension stress + trauma release exercises.)

Please bring a journal or notebook.

Space is limited and Aviva’s workshops usually sells out, secure your spot here.
