Mary Mailhot

Mary moved to Sunny Oakland from Brooklyn, NY in 2012. She has been practicing yoga since 2006 and is devoted to this transformative practice. Mary is a devoted musician and has a band called Honey and The Emperor. She grew up Dancing and Performing in Theater and found Yoga while in college majoring in dance and Literature, at The New School, in NYC. Shortly after college, Mary traveled across the world to train and hone her yoga practice, spending over a year in the sparkling Sydney Australia. Upon arrival, she experienced a heart breaking break-up with the person she loved and moved out there for. Mary realized this had nothing to do with that relationship, but had everything to do with self-love and cultivation of her spiritual practice. She picked herself up, moved to the Bondi beach, a stunning center for healing and transformation.
To heal she began to write music, teaching herself the guitar and went deep into her yoga practice. Here she studied an array of styles everything from Mysore to Kundalini. She also found a beautiful Qi Gong and mediation practice here with her teacher Emma Jean Bridge. This journey changed her life and led her to her calling to become a teacher. In 2011, she received a scholarship to Kripalu Yoga Center, where she completed her 200-hr training. Her main teachers were Devarshi Hartman and Jovinna Chan. During this training, she learned a deep understanding of self-love and compassion. Mary has been teaching ever since. Last October, she finished a 100-hr immersion with her teacher Kimber Simpkins. Currently, she teaches several classes all over the Bay Area, as well as, follows her musical dreams playing with her band Honey and The Emperor. She is thrilled to be on the new team at Symmetry Yoga!
Mary teaches a heart flow yoga class. This class explores a heart connecting moving practice; focused on breath work (pranayama), mindful and expressive movement (asana), mediation and relaxation. She works with the Universal Principles of alignment to inform the class on new ways to experience the pose. Bringing the mind to stillness, into this present moment is a gift of awareness and practice. Mary works to hone this self-awareness, shifting into the flow of grace and exploration, you will feel a deep sense of calm and uplifting energy to carry with you in your day.
